33 Ways We are Changing to Third World Status
We are rapidly and frighteningly headed towards becoming a third world country. Neither democrats nor republicans want to talk about it and both endorse the same failed solutions. As Cris Miller said, "The Middle Class is deliberately and painfully being killed - this is a government-sponsored execution."
Middle Class Death Watch -- 33 Frightening Economic Developments documents this disturbing trend as our speed towards third world status accelerates. For those who have been paying attention to actions rather than impressions, it should be clear that the Bush-Obama "solution" of more NAFTA agreements, less government involvement, less safety nets, more tax breaks for corporations and rich people, more government subsidies for bankers and corporations at the expense of teachers and government employees, and more pollution which kills seniors and children is not solving the problem. In fact it is making the problem worse. The hard solution is to start the work of a third party such as the NPA.

"start the work of a third party such as the NPA"?
Is the NPA considering itself a 3rd party? What about primarying Obama, any action on that front?
Nothing definite yet
Harry Braun is running for President in the democratic primary, but his website is not responsive to volunteers. Also, while his environmental positions are strong, he does not seem to have a firm grasp as to where the deficit comes from and how to reduce it. Simply slapping a constitutional amendment requiring a balanced budget will destroy social security and medicare while doing nothing to stop corporate welfare or the military industrial complex.
Aldous Tyler is also running for President on the democratic primary and has adopted our platform which is very good, but he has not committed formally to not endorsing Obama when he loses. That is an absolute condition to getting our endorsement. There are many democrats who talk bravely against republicans, but nobody wants to hold Obama to the same standards.
It is possible we will not endorse anybody for president if they are not viable enough and focus on growing our organization.
The NPA does want to fight on issues rather than personalities even if that takes longer. We are talking with other parties, such as the Green Party, to see how we can cooperate. Our endorsing a Green candidate is not out of the question, but it is still in the talking stages. We are also talking to other organizations about alliances. Finally we are open to grass roots efforts at the local effort, but that depends on our volunteers. Perhaps the greatest hope is the Occupy Wall Street, October Movement, and 350 movement against tar sands which have drawn a lot of attention. Indeed, our leaders are physically there now.
I hope that helps, we are still evolving.
