Crying ‘Class Warfare’ while doing their level best to make the U.S. a ghetto
cross posted from politiwrap
Sometimes we see things on television or hear things on the radio, even occasionally we hear things coming out of someone’s mouth directly that make us think:
A. Just how stupid or corrupt is the person saying this?
and inevitably
B. Just how stupid does this person think I am?
And then we get angry (or at least we should). Ever since the President announced his pathetic excuse for a jobs plan and his symbolically nice but operationally weak and far too conservative criminal Buffet rule, you would think he had proposed taxing rich people at the same rate as the rest of us common folk. Which to the conservative minded rich person wealthy criminal member of the kleptocracy would be tantamount to being turned upside down by Deebo and having the spare change vigorously shaken from their overstuffed pockets. They start clutching their pearls and writing campaign contributions to their obedient errand boys and girls in Congress at the mere mention of an actual progressive tax system.
What Obama has proposed is authentically weak and pathetic sauce from the perspectives of progressivism, common sense, AND empirical evidence.
And yet CONservative members of congress as well as their Blue Dog Dim counterparts have been taking every spare second to make press releases and appear in press conferences to declare, as if they were Paul Revere that ‘a ridiculously weak increase in the taxes of the ultra wealthy is coming!’, ‘a ridiculously weak increase in the taxes of the ultra wealthy is coming!’
Two questions:
1. It is obvious that all of you can’t be stupid enough to actually believe the drivel coming from your mouths, so just who do you think you are fooling?
2. After years of Conservatives and Neoliberals doing their level best to turn the United States into a ghetto, how in the hell can you stand in front of a television camera, or sit behind a microphone in a radio station, or stand on the floors of the House and Senate that belong to the people of the United States and tell bold-faced lie after bold-faced lie? How can you do it? How can you live with yourself afterwards?
Who am I speaking of when I say CONservatives and Neo Liberals who have done their level best to transform the U.S. into a ghetto?
Answer: Every single Republican member of Congress, and many on the Democratic side of the equation. Aside from every single Republican I am speaking of folks like Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska, Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri, Sen. Jim Webb of Virgina and so son. (Join the New Progressive Alliance to put real progressives in office)
The real class warfare is being carried out with cold efficiency by the combined efforts and similar interests of the wealthy individual, the powerful multinational corporation, the well compensated lobbyist who formerly played a ‘public servant’ on Capitol Hill before getting a new gig shilling for the same industries he used to represent. You know, the same industries he passed favorable legislation for, the same industry he protected from legislation that was good for the country, but bad for his CEO and CFO buddies who just happened to give him big campaign contributions. If there is warfare being waged, we need look no further than these folks to know who the aggressors are.
What about the victims? Unaffordable tax cuts for wealthy individuals have real costs like nation wide budget cuts to education. Who really pays when loopholes in the law allow corporations to ship jobs overseas and bring back profits that they don’t have to pay taxes on, and then use those profits to buy off Congress to keep the party going? Who is carrying the burden of a corrupted regulatory framework which puts communities at risk from pollution and crumbling infrastructure and allows the financial sector to bet the farm with ZERO risk. Heads Wall Street wins, tails tax payers lose. Who takes the weight of having to survive within a legal system where CEO’s and bankers can blow up the fucking economy at will, defraud investors out of trillions of dollars, and never see the inside of a courtroom, while common folk go to jail for stealing so much as a candy bar and get routinely put to death despite their trials being obviously compromised? If a corporation is a person, why don’t they get taxed at the same rate as a single father, or a disabled veteran, why do corporations get to pay zero taxes when working class families with children to feed do not? I thought single fathers, disabled veterans, and children were citizens too.
The pundits propagandists, the journalists shills, the CONservative and Neoliberal public servants predators have been waging class warfare for decades, they just haven’t seen it up close yet. They’ve spent decades creating ghettos but they’ve never faced the difficulties of living in the ghettos (song link just because I can); they create, they’ve never had the pleasure of working 4o hours a week and still not make enough to survive without public assistance. Most have never even taken the time to go down to a foodbank and NONE have noticed that the people going inside could just as easily be themselves or one of their loved ones. If they had they wouldn’t be doing every thing in their power to turn the whole damn country into a third world ghetto.
But they don’t hear us. I take that to mean, we obviously haven’t gotten loud enough yet. Just to be heard, it is going to take a full court press. If you can’t protest Wall Street, you can support and spread the word about folks who are. If you can’t get to D.C. to participate in Oct 2011, you can help someone else get there. If you can’t get out and go door to door, you can help an organization that is. There is always something we can do. The oligarchs, the kleptocrats, the haters, the propagandists and the naysayers never seem to miss any available opportunity to kick the working class in the shin, punch us in the gut, pick our pockets and tell us it’s our fault. The class warfare aggressors already have a sustained full court press against the working class, it’s time for the victims of the class war to participate in some sustained, relentless, nonviolent resistance of our own.
